College --> Study Abroad

Study Abroad

Through study abroad programs, students get the opportunity to live and take classes in foreign countries.  These classes/credits usually transfer over to your home institution. There are many programs and the choices vary.  Most programs are for one semester to one year.  Many students also choose to earn their college degrees abroad.  They either stay in a dormitory or apartment alone or with other students if going with a group. They may also stay with a host family if on an exchange program. Colleges also have their own study abroad programs and each one is structured differently.  You can choose to go alone or go with a group and a college professor.  In college, study abroad programs are mostly designed for language learners.  However, many college students study abroad to take classes that are not taught or offered at home.  For example, an architecture major might study abroad in Europe to study European architecture and a marine biology major might study abroad in Jamaica to learn about marine life in that environment.
