Have you ever been bullied? Are you the bully? Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing. No one deserves to be bullied for it can scar a person for life.  If you are the bully, STOP immediately. Put yourself in their shoes. You would not want to be bullied either, right? Getting bullied can lead to consequences which negatively affects self-esteem, health, and schoolwork.

You are being bullied if another student or group:

  • Teases you about (or imitates) the way you look, behave, and/or sound (i.e. Your clothes always look so old, Hey, look it's the four-eyed geek!)
  • Calls you stupid, dork, monkey, or other hurtful names.
  • Threatens to cause you physical harm (i.e. grabs an object and tries to hit you with it)

Being picked on is not a laughing matter. If you are being bullied, you need to inform your counselor or teacher and inform your parents. Things could get worse if you do not get this problem taken care of right away. Telling someone will not make you a squealer. If anything, you are helping and protecting your peers from getting bullied.
