Unbending Cane: Pablo Manlapit, A Filipino Labor Leader in Hawaii (2002)

The Office of Multicultural Student Services, in collaboration wiht the Filipino American Historical Society of Hawaii, has published Melinda Tria Kerkvliet's biography of Pablo Manlapit, Unbending Cane: Pablo Manlapit, A Filipino Labor Leader in Hawaii .

Melinda Tria Kerkvliet, Ph.D. in history and a former director of Operation Manong, narrates a sensitive story of a complex man trying to 'do the right thing.' In Tria Kerkvliet's narrative, Pablo Manlapit, a person whose actions have often been misinterpreted by other writers, emerges as an important figure in Hawaii's organized labor history.

Unbending Cane is available through the University of Hawaii Press or through the Filipino American Historical Society of Hawaii.
